Well, we are now 25 days away from our departure from Los Angeles. I am beginning to realize how soon things will begin to unravel as this trip approaches. My adventures officially begin on June 3rd as I will be heading up to Michigan for a wedding. On June 6 I will fly from Flint, MI to Harrisburg, PA for a conference. Then on the evening of June 9 Joel and I both fly to LA and meet up with Scott there. We get a day and a half in LA until the evening of June 11 when our flight leaves for Sydney, New South Wales, AUS! Because we are crossing the international dateline we end up losing a day and actually arriving at 6 a.m. on Sunday, the 13th.
Our itinerary will be pretty flexible but we do have some solid dates where we will be catching flights. On June 16 we will fly south to Melbourne. Then on the 19th we fly north to Brisbane for a few days until we catch a flight to Nadi, Fiji, on June 23. We spend 4 full days in Fiji and fly to Auckland, New Zealand on June 28, which was the most recent ticket we purchased. We are hoping to have New Zealand figured out sometime soon...we have people to stay with at various locations and multiple ways to travel, we are simply trying to decide on what we want to spend our money on.
One of the toughest things for us to think through is what travelling around New Zealand will be like in the winter time. Not only is it colder but there is significantly less sunlight per day the further south we go. We know of several Lord of the Rings sights we want to go to, but the question is will those be worth it on the South Island in the middle of winter?
Regardless of how our plans there end up we will most likely be flying from Christchurch back to Sydney on July 8 in the early morning. Our flight leaves Sydney late that night and gets into Brisbane for an overnight delay where we have decided to hit the town. We end up arriving in LA on the 9th, gaining a day coming back this time. And from there Joel is flying to Chicago and Scott and I are staying in LA for a couple more days.
I am looking forward to this trip even more now that I have written all this.

hello and welcome
Hello everybody,
My name is Ben...or some of you may know me as Loho. This is a brief welcome to my new blog, Garrison's Travels. This is a blog focused on the various travels and excursions I am blessed to be a part of, whether past, present or future. I decided to go with the particular title of "Garrison's Travels" not only because it was a small resemblance to the infamous "Gulliver's Travels", but because for a few years I have enjoyed going by B Garrison in my writings and journals and thought it fitting to make the connection at this point in time. Hopefully that disbands any potential confusion (and if not just ask me).
I have been very blessed to be able to do and see some pretty cool things in the last couple of years and the particular inspiration for this new blog actually happens to be upcoming this June. Since early February myself and tow other guys, Joel and Scott, have been planning a month-long trip to Australia. Like most travelers and outdoorsmen the very idea of going "Down Under" is exhilarating. Once we bought our plane tickets (LA to Sydney) and made it official we were able to start putting some meat on the bones of our adventure. And I am very pleased with the trip we have ended up with. The basic structure will include time in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fiji, and various areas of New Zealand.
I am hoping that this blog will be the best way for me to communicate with people here in the States will I am abroad and I am also hoping that I will be able to find ways to keep up with it. I encourage you to follow this blog as I will be posting pictures, videos, maps, and stories of my time Down Under, so that you may experience the Australian lifestyle with me.
As the summer approaches I will be updating this blog periodically to keep you up to date on our trips itinerary, things we plan to do, people we are staying with, and ways you can be praying for us. In the meantime, I will randomly be posting past travels I have had in the last year, such as last summer's Northwest backpacking trip with my brother and my return trip to Athens, Greece this March.
If you haven't noticed by now, I find extreme delight and enjoyment in traveling, nature, cultures, and the outdoors. And it is my belief that these modes of enjoyment are not an end to themselves, but a deep and powerful way of experiencing Jesus Christ in all things. As He reveals Himself through His creation I am brought back to the reason I stand in awe of beauty in the first place...our longing for beauty is deeply rooted in our souls. The Creator has designed us specifically to see beauty and experience an awe and wonder that lead our hearts to Him. Delight leads to awe and awe leads to worship.
Will you join me on my travels, as I seek to experience my Creator in the world He has made...
